HELLO FROM KERRY...
OWNER @ The Singing Studio
My love of music was instilled from a very early age as my Dad is a guitarist and vocalist and my grandfather was an organist and pianist. I can vividly remember being around the club circuit with my Dad and his band from a very early age. Music was always being played full volume at home with fond memories of singing at the top of our voices to my parents' LP collection!
After emigrating to New Zealand with my parents in the 1990's, my vocal training journey started in Auckland with Ashley Pepperell from the North Shore Musical Society. After returning to Ireland and over the following years, I continued my third level education in music, and completed diplomas in vocal performance and teaching and became an associate of the Royal Schools of Music.
A full time vocalist at the time, I was delighted to win the Wedding Singer of the Year award for three years running (2015 - 2017) at the Wedding Industry Awards.
In order to facilitate and enhance the voice training for my students at my expanding studio, I completed an intensive training course at the BAST Singing Teacher Training Academy and over the years became competent in teaching in all styles of singing. I am great believer in 'cross training' the voice, as the voice is neither a genre nor a style and it is important to train all of our instrument to achieve optimal flexibilty and agility and to maintain vocal health.
I am a qualified Voice Habilitation Professional and an accredited member of Vocal Health Education.
A certified vocal massage therapist, I completed further CPD training in TMJ Dysfunction Massage Therapy in June 2022 to complement my skills and assist the increasing number of voice users with TMJ (temporomandibular joint) issues.
I am also a qualifed Reiki Practitioner (Tera Mai Master & Teacher) and a member of the International Alliance of Holistic Therapists. I have trained in the Alexander Technique (Diploma level) and find the combination of these holistic disciplines to be very complementary to voice lessons at The Singing Studio with regards to breathing, vocal health, relaxation, mindfulness practice, posture and performance anxiety.
Continuous professional development is important to me in order to keep abreast of latest research and information and I am constantly striving to improve myself as a voice educator. Because of the major developments in voice education and vocal science in recent years, there is always something new to learn and that is why CPD helps me provide the best voice training and vocal care I possibly can to my clients and students.
Training courses and CPD programmes (current and completed):
As well as performing at weekends for weddings and private events, up until the pandemic, since 2013, I directed a children's choir - The Troubletones ShowChoir - ShowChoir Ireland award winners in 2018 and 2019.
In 2017, The Rolling Tones Rock Choir was born and is going from strength to strength and I am hugely proud to be their director. Over the past year, they have been featured many times in the media due to their efforts to keep public spirits raised with their 'virtual choir' videos during 'Lockdown Ireland'.
I am fully Garda vetted and I have completed the Child Protection Course in Music Education 2.
I look forward to meeting you.
