First of all, if you find yourself with a vocal injury, it is not your fault. Nearly all singers and voice users will experience vocal dysfunction at some stage. Singers are vocal athletes. If you were an professional runner who experienced a knee injury, no one would expect you continue to keep on running or suggest you mustn't have been running properly in the first place. Sadly, there isn't this understanding with singers and performances will go ahead (the show must go on!) and singers are left to suffer in silence and ashamed to admit they are struggling for fear of judgement. Thankfully, the vocal health community are working hard to dispel this stigma and at The Singing Studio, our mission is to help the out-of-sync voice user find synergy once more, and to work with our clients in a way that realigns, builds and strengthens body, mind and voice.

- Are you experiencing a vocal injury or voice problem?
- Have you received a diagnosis of Muscle Tension Dysphonia / supra~glottal squeeze from an ENT/laryngologist?
- Are you concerned about your speaking voice?
- Are you concerned about your singing voice?
- Does your voice sound rough, hoarse, breathy, scratchy?
- Are you experiencing a delay in the onset of voicing?
- Are you experiencing a change in voice quality throughout the day?
- Do you experience pain when using your voice?
- Are you throat clearing (ahem!) often?
- Do you suffer from reflux?
- Are you experiencing loss of range and/or power or has your voice changed?
- Has your voice changed as you have aged?
- Are you experiencing voice fatigue more often?
- Has your voice become unreliable?

- Realise the impact of a range of musical genres and professional working environments on vocal health, for both professional and amateur singers.
- Spot the signs of a range of vocal imbalances to include temporomandibular joint dysfunction and laryngeal constriction.
- Help clients towards recovery by guiding them in self-management and using vocal function exercises to aid vocal recovery.
- Habilitate a singer with muscle tension dysphonia and no vocal fold pathology using vocal function exercises
- As part of the Voice Care Centre referral network, design a pathway to help rebuild healthy vocal function after injury or dysphonia.
- Perform manual therapy on clients using TMJ and laryngeal advanced massage therapy treatment protocols.
- Provide post treatment exercises and self care tips.
- Know when to refer a singer for clinical assessment or help from another professional in another field.
- Advise clients on vocal hygiene and vocal load and the impact and implications of stressors on vocal function.
- If required, refer on to further support, e.g. a clinical assessment with a laryngologist.
- Receive ongoing support from a international network of vocal specialists at the Voice Care Centre..
